Cheesemaking for kids
Usually adults have all the fun learning to make cheese with Lourdes at Dave’s Fresh Pasta. But on July 16, kids will learn how to make string cheese with Lourdes, as well as learning the science behind cheesemaking. The class is part of Camp ChopChop, a two-week cooking, science and fitness camp for kids put on by ChopChop, a cooking magazine for kids ages 5-12 and their families. Camp ChopChop is taking place at Harvard University with the help of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Fundraising successes
Recently, Fiore di Nonno lent a cheesemaking hand toward two great causes. We’re proud to report that the Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) event, Pride and Passion, raised over $400,000 for its Bullying Prevention, Family Support, and Education Programs.
We were also at a Rialto fundraiser in support of Team Rialto-TRADE, which is participating in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge Ride. Last year they raised $65,000, and this year they’ve currently raised over $36,000 toward their goal of $100,000. You can still make a donation to support their team. One-hundred percent of the money raised goes to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
Farmers markets are in full swing
All the farmers markets we sell cheese at are now up and running for the summer. Head on over to the Lexington Farmers Market on Tuesdays, Copley Square on Fridays and Somerville’s Union Square on Saturdays for fresh cheese made the same day we sell it. For full details on market locations and times, head on over to our farmers markets page.
Eat cheese, fight cancer
We’d like you to eat for good cause. On May 31, we’ll be making fresh mozzarella at Rialto as part of a fundraiser to support their Team Rialto-TRADE in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge Ride. Last year they raised $65,000 and hope to top that figure in 2012. One-hundred percent of the money raised goes to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. So come over to Cambridge and support the team.
Thursday, May 31, 2012
Rialto, at the Charles Hotel, 1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138
If you can’t make it out on May 31, you can also head over to Team-Rialto-TRADE’s Pan-Mass Challenge page and make a donation.
Fiore steps up for Pride and Passion
Our very own owner Lourdes is stepping up to make mozzarella at Pride and Passion, a fundraiser to benefit the Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Bullying Prevention, Family Support, and Education Programs. Also onboard for the event are our partners Jody Adams of Rialto and Ana Sortun of Oleana.
Join us in helping to stop bullying and keep our kids safe.
